What follows is a journal written by one of the operatives in the second XCOM campaign, Alan Robertson.
Operation Fallen Glove– Part 2
The story so far: We received word that ADVENT found a resistance outpost. We have moved in to rescue civilians and take out the ADVENT forces in the area. We are currently engaged with a codex, a being of psionic energy, a heavy lancer, and an ADVENT trooper…
Off in the distance we hear a berserker bellow and the screams of another dying civilian. Central proceeds to remind us that we’re losing civilians left and right and that we need to get these people out of here. The cloned codex teleports next to a bridge on the stream behind Kabosky. She launches a bolt, and a purple dome of coalescing energy swirls around him and seems to disable his weapon. The heavy lancer rushes towards Gusev. As he does, Roberts takes a reactionary shot at him but misses. The trooper continues his rush and bashes at Gusev with his stun lance. Between the damage of the bash and the electrical discharge from the lance, Gusev falls down dead. Ye takes a reactionary shot at the heavy lancer, but her shot also misses. The original codex moves through the building and fires her weapon at Roberts, but luckily her shot goes wide.
Ye takes a look at the shots laid out before her. Not liking any of her options, she decides to wait and see what the rest of the squad is able to do. Kabosky moves out of the swirling purple dome of energy and takes cover behind a tree closer to the cloned codex. With his cannon malfunctioning, he decided to load his other grenade into the launcher and lob it towards the cloned codex. The shrapnel damages the codex, but it is still not down yet. It proceeds to clone itself into a third codex across the stream on the other side of the bridge. It seems however, that it does not have enough energy to make a clone, as when the new one forms the original clone seems to fade away into nothingness. Roberts moves up to the building and takes cover against the wall next to one of the windows. Not having a clear shot at either the heavy lancer or original codex, she pulls out her grenade and lobs it at the feet of the codex. It lands perfectly at its feet and the resulting explosion destroys the original codex. However, the two clones are still left standing. Ye decides to take her shot at the heavy lancer. She lines up and lets a bullet fly, but it misses the heavy lancer.
The swirling purple energy dissipates. The second codex clone teleports closer to Ye and takes a shot at her. Thankfully, the shot falls short of hitting Ye and explodes the dirt just a few feet away from her. The heavy lancer moves out of the building and uses his stun lance on the civilian the fled the building before and kills him.

I have been an avid gamer for 32 years now. It started with the Atari 2600 my parents bought me as a child (my mom still says she regrets that decision), and I have never looked back. For my gaming, I enjoy RPG and strategy games the most, but I will play almost all games. Besides gaming, I am a family man (beautiful wife and three wonderful children) and a healthcare IT professional. So, gaming time is a premium for me, but I make the most of every chance I get.
