Operation Sleeping Palace – June 1st,2035 – Part 2

Recap:  We have learned of an alien communications relay in West Africa.  We have been deployed to destroy it before it finishes transferring its data.  We encountered some resistance and have found the relay.  Now, we just have to destroy it and any remaining ADVENT forces in the area.

iD35TROYu moves into cover on the far side of the street and through the window of the house he spies the relay.  He fires off his bolt caster and damages the relay, but we can tell it is still processing and transferring data.  Kabosky moves up to a burned out window on the front of the house and finishes off the relay with a blast from his cannon.  Central confirms the relay has been destroyed.  Now, all we have to do is finish off the ADVENT forces in the area.  Ishikawa moves up and into cover at the cactus that Kabosky was previously at.  Schulz moves up into cover behind alongside a car parked in the driveway of the house.  I finally leave my position on top of the church and drop down to the street and take cover on behind the post of a street light.

From his position by the window, Kabosky spies another muton and two more sectoids on the other side of the house.  iD35TROYu goes to take a shot at one of them and realizes his weapon is empty.  So, he instead moves up the side door of the house and takes a moment to reload his bolt caster.  Ishikawa moves up to the corner of the house and lays down some suppressing fire on one of the sectoids through the window.  Kabosky decides to remove some of the cover the aliens are hiding behind and pulls out his grenade launcher and fires a grenade through the window at the feet of the muton.  The explosion takes out a portion of the wall and the shrapnel and debris tear into the one sectoid and the muton.  Schulz moves around the side of the car to the back of the car to get into a better position to take a shot.  He pulls out a frag grenade and tosses it between the two.  The explosion takes out the sectoid and further damages the muton.  I move to the side of the building and fire off a quick shot with my pistol, but I miss wide.  I then use the grappling hook built into my armor to quickly reach the roof and scurry for cover behind some solar panels on the roof.

The muton climbs up the water spout by him and reaches the roof of the building.  He advances on my position and takes a swing at me.  Luckily, he misses, but he does damage the roof and it gives way, and I barely avoid falling down to the floor below.  The other sectoid scurries away from the building and takes cover behind a boulder in the yard.  He fires off a purple psychic blast that slams into Kabosky.  A sort of glaze comes over his eyes, and it looks like Kabosky is disoriented and not sure where he is.

Ishikawa takes a moment to reload his cannon.  With the muton right in my face, I pull out my pistol and execute the shadowfall ability to finish him and gain concealment from the remaining forces.  iD35TROYu goes into overwatch hoping for any ADVENT to stumble upon us.  Kabosky backs away from the house and takes cover alongside of the car and goes into overwatch.  Schulz stays behind the car and also goes into overwatch.  Ishikawa stays at the corner of the building and also goes into overwatch.

The sectoid starts to move from his boulder and Ishikawa lays down a volley of fire that goes over his head.  As he continues to press forward, Schulz steps out and blasts him with his rifle.  The shot goes deep, but the sectoid is still barely standing.  It then fires a plasma blast through the house that hits Ishikawa.  His armor absorbs some of the blast as the wall disintegrates in front of him.  iD35TROYu rushes through the house and pulls out his axes and swings it downward on the sectoid, finishing him off.

Central advises us that all hostiles are down and the area is secure.  We regroup and head back home.  Another excellent performance by the squad today.  Eight enemies killed, the communications relay destroyed, and only two injuries sustained.  Ishikawa was lightly wounded by the plasma blast from the sectoid and will require a couple days’ rest.  iD35TROYu on the other hand was gravely wounded by the muton and will be in the infirmary for a couple weeks.

The other three of us have received promotions today.  Schulz is promoted to Sergeant and learns Revival Protocol that allows him to send out his GREMLIN drone to stabilize and remove any negative effects from a squad mate.  Kabosky is also promoted to Sergeant.  He learns the Demolition ability that allows him to unleash a volley of bullets at a target’s cover.  This will damage and/or destroy the cover but not do any damage to the target itself.  I have now been promoted to Captain.  From my time in the Advanced Warfare Center, I learn the Phantom skill that allows me to remain concealed even when the rest of the squad is revealed.  I also learn the Kill Zone skill.  This allows me to take a reaction shot at any enemies that move or attack within my cone of fire.
