Operation Magic Sword – June 8th,2035 – Part 4

Recap:  Advent has learned of a resistance data tap on their network and have sent forces to destroy it.  We have been sent in to protect the device and clear out all hostiles.  After using the Skulljack to hack into the ADVENT psionic network, we have awoken a “Codex,” a creature that exists cross multiple dimensions that protects the network.  After damaging the Codex, it created a copy of itself.  We eliminated the original, but the clone is still around.

Ishikawa leans out from cover and lays a volley down at the Codex.  His shot just barely grazes the Codex, but it is enough to finish it off.  Dr. Tygan says that it appears that some physical remnant of the Codex was left behind when it dissipated.  He hopes it will provide some insight into the aliens’ ongoing plans.

Again, we wait for word from Central that the area is secure, but still it does not come.  We decide to prepare out defenses for whatever forces are still at large and on their way to destroy the device.  Kabosky moves into the building with the device and takes cover behind a booth in the middle and goes into overwatch.  Schulz decides to climb the drain pipe on the building to get a better vantage point and takes cover in the middle of the roof.  I also decide to head to the roof of the building to take the high ground.

Not spotting any movement from ADVENT, we plan our next moves.  Ishikawa dashes into the kitchen are of the building.  As he crosses the window, he spots ADVENT.  Three mutons are just across the street from the back of the building.  They spot him and start to move toward the building.  Knowing the direction the mutons will be coming from, Kabosky moves behind a different booth to gain better cover and goes into overwatch.  Schulz moves to the side of the roof.  Realizing that one of the mutons has zero cover from him, he fires off a shot.  The armor of the muton absorbs part of the blast, but it still does some damage.  I move up behind some of the ductwork on the roof and fire my pistol at another muton that barely damages it through its armor.

The mutons continue to move up on the building.  The one that Schulz hit decided to return the favor and fires at him.  The blast hits him, but Schulz is still standing.  The muton I fired upon lays down some suppressing fire at Schulz.  The third muton moves up and takes a shot at me that misses high.

I use my lightning hands skill to fire a quick pistol shot at the muton suppressing Schulz and again just barely damage him.  However, my intention was not to kill him with the pistol, but just to soften him up a bit.  I then line up a shot with my sniper rifle and finish him off with one clean shot.  With the suppressing fire gone, Schulz stands up from cover and fires at the first muton and finishes him off.  Ishikawa slides down in cover so that the final muton is visible.  He tries lining up a shot but does not like his chances to hit.  He tries to line up a grenade volley, but also does not like his chances.  Instead he just goes into overwatch in case the muton moves.  Kabosky moves up to the counter in the building and takes a shot at the muton, but the pillar he is behind absorbs the bullets.

The muton moves to the back wall of the building and takes a shot.  We’re not sure who he was aiming at, but the shot goes into the wall and doesn’t do any damage to anyone or the building’s structural integrity.

Ishikawa sees the muton just outside the window and has a great shot.  However, somehow, he still manages to miss the muton completely with his volley of fire.  Kabosky follow suit and also lays down a volley of fire at the muton.  His bullets hit.  Some of the damage is absorbed by the creature’s armor, but he still manages to damage it some.  I have no shot from where I am in the middle of the roof.  So, I drop down and take cover behind some barrels behind the muton to flank him.  I pull out my pistol and take a shot.  The armor of the creature keeps it from doing more than just minimal damage.  From his position across the roof, Schulz pulls out a grenade and tosses it at the feet of the muton.  The resulting explosion finishes the muton off and sends its body flying.

We finally get the news we’ve been wanting to hear as Central advises us that all hostiles are down and the area is secure.  We head back to the Skyranger and head back to base with the mission complete.  We protected the device and took out ten ADVENT units.  We also were able to use the Skulljack and hack into the ADVENT psionic network.  Sadly, Klein did not make it out, and three others of us are injured.  However, I’d still say we did a good job.
