Operation Magic Sword – June 8th,2035 – Part 3

Recap:  Advent has learned of a resistance data tap on their network and have sent forces to destroy it.  We have been sent in to protect the device and clear out all hostiles.  We have engaged the enemy forces and Klein just used the Skulljack device to hack into the ADVENT psionic network.

Suddenly, outside the building, we notice a cloud of energy start spinning and a shape starts to take form inside the cloud.  The cloud begins to coalesce and take the shape of a women that appears to be made of pure energy almost.  Dr. Tygan explains that this seems to be the “Codex” that is responsible for safeguarding the alien data.  He says we will have to neutralize it if we intend to recover the data from the network.  I am assuming that since Klein was the one to hack the network, the Codex makes her its target and moves into the building with her.

I open the back door of the building I’m in so I can try to line up a shot.  Realizing that any shot I take from here will be a crapshoot of if it works or not, I decide to move from my position and take cover behind the broken down fridge behind the building.  Not having time to take any shot, I instead decide to hunker down and provide myself a little bit more protection from any attacks.  Kabosky moves from the corner of the building and takes cover behind the street light that the viper was previously at and goes into overwatch.  Schulz holds his position and goes into overwatch as well.  Ishikawa moves to the wall of the building near a window and goes into overwatch also.

We all watch as the Codex seems to blink out of existence, and then suddenly it reappears at the outside corner of the building that Ishikawa is in.  Dr. Tygan says that the Codes appears to be in a state of flux and exists simultaneously across multiple dimensions.  The Codex then reaches out and points towards Kabosky and Ishikawa, and a swirling purple cloud of energy takes shape in their area.  Ishikawa yells out to let us know his weapons has been disabled, and Kabosky realizes that his is disabled also.  I hear Klein cry out as the poison continues to burn, and I also cry out as I realize I am burning from the explosion I was in.

Ishikawa moves out of the purple energy cloud and take cover inside the building at the same corner that the Codex is at outside the building.  He then takes a moment to reload his weapon so that he can use it again.  Klein moves to the adjacent wall of the building she is in by another window to flank the Codex.  Unfortunately, her shot misses high.  Kabosky moves out of the cloud and into cover at the corner of the building down from the Codex.  He also reloads his weapon so that it is functional again.  From my position, I line up a shot and fire at the Codex.  The bullet strikes deep, but does not take it down.  I then watch as the Codex somehow makes a copy of itself that appears just outside the building that Klein is in.  Dr. Tygan is even amazed as he states he’s never seen anything like this, and that the Codex is projecting multiple copies of itself into our dimension.

The clone of the Codex teleports itself into the building with Klein and flanks her as it takes position behind shelves.  It then fires a green blast at Klein that critically hits her and kills her outright.  The original Codex moves from its position, and Schulz takes a reactionary shot at it but misses.  Ishikawa also takes a reactionary shot, and his hits its mark and the Codex is gone.

We wait for the word from Central that all hostiles are neutralized, but it does not come.  We realize that even with destroying the original, the clone of the Codex must still be up.  Ishikawa exits the building and takes cover behind the bench for the bus stop just outside the building and goes into overwatch.  Kabosky and Schulz both stay where they are and go into overwatch.  I move out and take cover at the base of a destroyed statue outside the building the Codex clone is in.

The Codex teleports outside the building and just down from the bus stop that Ishikawa is behind.  It fires a green burst that hits me in my spot behind cover.  It hurts like crazy, but I grit my teeth and continue to stand.
