Operation Witch Claw – May 11th,2035 – Part 2

Recap:  We learned of an alien relay outside of Cairo.  We have moved in to destroy it before it finishes transferring its data.  We have found the relay and destroyed any visible forces in the area.  Now, we focus our attention on the relay itself.

With no other hostiles in sight, iD35STROYu and then Kabosky each fire at the relay and between the two of them destroy it with four minutes to spare.  However, Central advises us that there are still hostiles in the area that need to be destroyed.  So, Ishikawa moves up to the corner of the building where the officer just was and goes into overwatch.  Ye moves up to the other corner on the front of the building and also goes into overwatch.  I decide to take the high ground.  I climb a pipe on the side of the building and take partial cover on the half wall on the edge of the roof of the building.

I spy two sectoids moving behind the building next to us.  They move around the back of the building we’re at, and Ishikawa fires at one through the back windows but misses.  As another moves past the building, Ye fires off a shot with her pistol but misses high.

Ishikawa moves up behind a counter in the building to get a better shot at the sectoids.  Not liking the shots he has available, he instead loads up the grenade launcher and fires a frag grenade at the sectoid on the other side of the building.  Shrapnel flies and damages the sectoid and takes out the wall behind him.  I drop down the side of the building and take cover at the other end of the counter that Ishikawa is at.  I take advantage of my training and use what’s been called “lightning hands” to make a quick shot with my pistol that doesn’t take up any time.  I hit the sectoid, but he’s still standing.  I then go into overwatch in case they try to make a move for it.  Kabosky realizes he has the sectoid in the building flanked and finishes him off with a rifle blast.  iD35STROYu moves up behind a lamp post into cover and fires at the remaining sectoid that’s hiding in a bus stop shelter.  He hits the sectoid, but he’s still up.  Ye takes a shot with her sniper rifle.  She misses the sectoid, but manages to destroy the shelter he’s hiding in.

I see the sectoid reach his hands towards me and the purple lights move towards me.  Then, I feel him reaching into my brain, and the next thing I know I’m there and I can see what’s going on, but I no longer have control over my actions.  Luckily, Ishikawa sees it too and quickly aims at the sectoid and drops him with cannon fire.

Central confirms that this was the last of the ADVENT forces in the area.  We are done here for today and make our way back to base.  After the disaster that was our last mission, I’m happy with our flawless performance today.  The relay is destroyed, we had no injuries or casualties, and we took out six aliens.  Plus, three members of our team got promoted.  iD35STROYu is promoted to Squaddie and is progressing down the ranger track and given his own sword.  Kabosky is also promoted to Squaddie, and he is set up to move down the Graenadier path and given a grenade launcher.  Finally, Ishikawa is promoted to Lieutenant.  He is taught a skill called Holo Targeting.  Basically, any shot he makes, hit or miss, will mark the target and make it easier for everyone else to aim at the target.
