I'm a gamer...
I've identified with two groups for my entire life, number one is Christian, and second Gamer. I've never been smart, athletic, or special in any meaningful way other than my faith and video games!
From the time I was 4, for better or for worse I've been a gamer through and through. I remember the exact moment at which I was hooked -- it started when I was given a brick for a birthday. Shoe-less and covered in mud I was enjoying my birthday like any kid in the 90’s, by actually playing outside! My parents called me inside and gave me 2 presents that changed my life forever. The first was a denim jacket with my name embroidered beside the Nintendo “N.” The second was my first console just for me -- a green Game-boy. This monstrous battery eater became my life from that moment on, the characteristic chime each time I turned it on filled me with joy.
I played it religiously through long road trips, at night under the sheets with a lamp lighting my adventures, and throughout long hard moves with my military family. One day my dad pulled the trigger on me ever being a productive person again.... He revealed to me and my older brother that he had an NES and with it a chest of games for us to play! It was as if he had shown us the promised land. This hidden treasure was the first anniversary gift my mom had given my dad...thanks Mom!
For years my brother and I played NES and got lost in new worlds and fun adventures together as the powerful Ninja Turtles, and competed in games like Duck Hunt and Punch Out! After long sessions on the couch in front of a wood paneled TV we would sneak our Game-Boys under our pillows to continue our new found love of gaming late into the night.
If you've ever played games you know that feeling.... the longing for more... that itch for just one more wonderful escape into a gaming session.
If you're a gamer than you know exactly what I'm talking about. Whether RPG’s, FPS’s, or platformers, or like me, catching Pokémon late into the night; we've all had something that makes us want more -- that what makes us gamers.....for me it all started in shades of green.
What's up nerds!!! This community is awesome! I've loved writing since I started college and I've loved video games since I was born! (almost true I started on my dad's NES when I was 4) So I decided why not do both, so I started a Youtube channel. Check it out here and give me a thumbs up! It's only a little sad I promise.
