What follows is a journal written by one of the operatives in the second XCOM campaign, Alan Robertson.

Operation Fallen Glove – Part 3

The story so far:  We received word that ADVENT found a resistance outpost.  We have moved in to rescue civilians and take out the ADVENT forces in the area.  We were already short one man due to injuries, and now another XCOM soldier has died in the battle, but we fight on…

Realizing that she has been flanked by the remaining codex, Ye moves around the corner of the tree stump to get into better cover.  She then takes a minute to reload her gauss rifle.  Kabosky moves towards the building and jumps over an overturned tree trunk to take cover.  Also being out of ammo, he takes a moment to reload his cannon.  Knowing that the heavy lancer has to move in close to attack, Roberts goes into overwatch and waits to take her shot.

The codex teleports across the river and closer to where Kabosky is.  She fires at Kabosky but the shot goes high and misses.  Instead of coming towards the rest of the squad, the heavy lancer goes through the building and out the back and kills another civilian outside.

Realizing that the codex must be about dead, Ye moves into a flanking position and pulls out her pistol and finishes off the codex with one well-placed round.  Kabosky moves up to the corner of the building and goes into overwatch since he cannot see the heavy lancer.  Roberts moves into the building and takes cover behind some burnt out furniture in the middle of the main room.  She doesn’t like her chance to hit, and so she goes into overwatch and waits for the heavy lancer to move upon the squad or another civilian.

Off in the distance we hear another berserker bellow and another civilian scream as they are slaughtered.  Central advises us that this is turning into a massacre and that the aliens are wiping out the camp.  The heavy lancer pulls out a rifle and takes a shot at Roberts that luckily misses its mark.

Roberts moves up closer to the heavy lancer and takes cover behind a stack of boxes in the room.  From her position she takes a shot at the heavy lancer.  Her shots go wide and miss.  Kabosky moves into the room and into cover behind the burnt out furniture where Roberts was before.  He lays down a volley of cannon fire and hits his mark.  The lancer’s armor absorbs some of the blow, and he is still standing.  Being so far out of the action, Ye rushes towards the building and into cover at the corner Kabosky just left.

As the squad watches on, the heavy lancer moves further away from the building and kills yet another civilian with his stun baton.  Luckily, he has left himself out in the open.  Taking advantage of this, Roberts finishes him off with a shot from her rifle.  Kabosky moves up to the wall of the building and goes into overwatch.  Ye climbs the drain pipe of the building and takes cover at the top of the roof of the building.
