From a consumer’s perspective, it's a very exciting time to be a gamer. However, there are also some concerns that need to be considered before we fully buy into this new way of accessing games.Read More

MY THOUGHTS ON SUPPLY DROPS
My name is Nathaniel and this is my first solo article. For those of you who don’t know, my father and I usually do these articles together. But when I gave him the idea for this article he said I should do it by myself because he has no knowledge about this.
For the first 10 years of Call of Duty’s existence supply drops were not a thing. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare was we saw the birth of this new feature. Advanced Warfare had supply drops that included cosmetics and variants for weapons. There were no problems with the cosmetics (even though they did become ridiculous overtime). The big issue was the weapon variants. The variants had increased or decreased stats for each weapon. Which in some ways gave advantages to the players with extremely good luck or with large wallets that could buy a lot of supply drops. This system was clearly unfair but was not tweaked or changed to make it fair for the average Call of Duty player.
That brings us to the release of Call of Duty Black Ops 3 where the supply drops got even more out of hand. At the release of Black Ops 3 the supply drops contained only cosmetics like weapon skins, emotes, and uniforms for your character. But a few months into the life of Black Ops 3 they released supply drop exclusive weapons which ruined the fairness of the game. The players who had either good luck or deep pockets would get these weapons and as soon as people saw a new weapon in the lobby everything went downhill. The lobby would turn into a camping contest and people would camp corners to get the new weapon which would make the lobby unbearable to play in. Also it ruined the point of the game. Players were not taking advantage of the new movement system that Treyarch implemented. This made me upset because I feel that the movement in that game is the best exo movement in the newer games.
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty 4 Remastered I feel is one of the fairest systems of all. These games went back to the variant system but did it more fairly. You could get variants from supply drops but you could use an in game currency to spend on sets that would eventually allow you to unlock the variant you wanted. When they added DLC weapons they did the same thing allowing you to unlock them through the sets. They did this in Call of Duty 4 Remastered but it was a little more controversial when they added it to Call of Duty 4 Remastered. In the original Call of Duty 4 there were no supply drops which is why they were so controversial.
Finally, Call of Duty WWII where the supply drop system is at the best it can be in my opinion. In Call of Duty WWII the supply drops are strictly cosmetic. You can get callsigns and emblems but the weapons are not strict to supply drops. They can always be earned through other means. The new weapons that they have added were very easy to get because there were challenges that allowed you to earn them completely free. There are also weapon variants but the only bonus is a 10% experience boost which keeps the system completely fair.
Maybe if the developers of Call of Duty had reached this point with supply drops sooner, maybe people would be a lot less mad about the whole situation. I personally believe that the current state of supply drops is great, and as long as the developers of Call of Duty do not change this system then there will be a lot less backlash about the supply drop system.

IGN was like plenty of other sites, fanboys on both sides arguing the toss, having an irrational hatred for anything not on their console, but most of it was generally light hearted… big game reviews would get upwards of 65,000 comments which is staggering… at current time of writing they’re lucky to get more than two to three thousand.....Read More
